It’s the most wonderful time of year again – October!
Okay, I realize that for most people the most wonderful time of year is December but not in this house. From pumpkins to costumes, October means that ghoulishly great holiday with haunts and hacks and delicious treats.
5. Cooler Weather
Scarves, boots, sweatshirts – we love them all. If I’m being honest, I’m tired of shaving my legs and caking on the sunscreen. Give me long-sleeved shirts and jeans already! Not that I’ve ever been a fan of the heat, but October (generally) means a turned toward cooler weather. Autumn insists that it’s better weather for softball because her catcher’s gear is a lot cooler in the fall!
4. Leaves Changing Colors
Who doesn’t love watching the leaves change color? If you don’t, we can’t be friends. Ha, ha. Kidding. Sort of. My kids aren’t as excited as I am about the pretty colors but I don’t care, pretty shades of red, orange and gold take over this month. I love it.
We are football fans in this house. Maddox follows the Seahawks. Autumn and I follow the Texans. All three of us follow Notre Dame. It’s a thing with us. We do it all, fantasy football, pregame shows, and, of course, catch as many games as possible!
2. Pumpkin (Spice) Everything
Some people hate pumpkin spice season – those people are NOT us. We use as much pumpkin as possible and we’re not talking pies here. From pancakes (we LOVE these pumpkin pancakes from Somewhat Simple) to cookies (did you catch our Pumpkin Cookies?) to smoothies and more, we pumpkin-fy a lot.
1. October 31st – Halloween!
We absolutely do Halloween in this house. Costumes are a fundamental part of our family bonding and we go all in at Halloween. Look for posts on this year’s costumes over the next few weeks. In the meantime, here are some past costumes that really hit their marks.
