I've got a precocious kiddo - as if tween/teen years aren't tough enough to muddle through. Autumn basically taught herself to read (we just weren't teaching her fast enough) and hasn't looked back. She's actually been accelerated a grade in Language Arts and will tell you that her favorite book is Animal Farm without hesitation. Most of the books in this category will be teen reads and classics.
As I've said on more than one occasion, I don't believe in censorship so I allow my kids to read almost anything so long as we read together and discuss difficult matter. This is just my perspective, you don't have to share it, but I ask that when commenting you be considerate since tweens and teens will be reading these. Please note that Autumn and I read many of these books together by swapping books every few chapters. Confusing? Maybe, but we've got a system down that allows us to read two books at a time and it works. We've never had trouble keeping stories straight and it allows open dialogue about what's happening in these worlds.

- Animal Farm
- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (though Hollow City was not as good)
