It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of craft brews. My Dad even brews beer (and it’s amazing) so you’d better believe we are celebrating International Beer Day despite being several states apart.
In my younger (yet still completely legal-to-drink) days, I did not enjoy beer at all. It wasn’t until after a visit to Portland where my incredible sister and brother-in-law (*Hi Jen & Alex) that I began to truly appreciate beer. Of course, it may have something to do with the TYPE of beer they introduced me to (a hazelnut porter – YUMMMY).
Still, a love affair began that weekend that has seen me through many highs and lows over the years. No, I am not an alcoholic. I believe in drinking responsibly and I never drink and drive. However, there is something to be said for sitting around a campfire or football game and enjoying a cold beer with friends.
Brew Your Own?
Do you dream of brewing your own beer? I do. It’s something I truly want to do and this International Beer Day has me contemplating it more than ever before. I’m lucky, I don’t have far to go for guidance (Hi Dad!) and thankfully, neither do you! As noted above, Dad is a home brewer and has been at it for a while. He even grows his own hops now if that tells you how committed he is! Check out his posts on home brewing at Fisher’s Follies.
Writers Write…..and Drink
I’m not speaking for all of us, but most writers I know are keen to socialize over a few drinks. My favorite little circles have led to some of the greatest discussions over a few beers at somebody’s house or, say, while watching a game after-hours at a convention. I’d throw in some shout-outs here but it’d get wordy fast.
