DIY Upcycle: Girl’s Sundress from Men’s Dress Shirt

Men's Shirt into Girl's Sundress

Upcycling, repurposing, or recycling – any way you cut it, these are great ways to give new life to an unwanted item. A Men’s Dress shirt makes an adorable girl’s sundress!

How to Convert the Shirt

Make these cuts:

Set aside the sleeves for other projects.  The collar actually had a few tears and stains (I don’t want to know where they came from, vampire?) so I discarded that portion.  Turn under about an inch at the top (front and back) to make a casing for elastic (or if you prefer, simply gather the top by basting and skip the next step).

Form a casing

Add the elastic and stitch it in place at both ends:

Insert elastic

Use scrap fabric (or part of the sleeves) for two cute straps.

I added a small rosette made from fabric and a button.

You may have to take in a little bit under the arms for a better fit.
