May 25th is Geek Pride Day!

Geek Pride Day

Do you remember when being a “geek” was the worst thing in the world? My how the world has changed. People are more apt to embrace their inner geek more than ever. It’s acceptable, even admirable these days.Geek Pride Day

Where Did Geek Pride Day Come From?

This Time article sums it up pretty perfectly. In short, this day is set aside to promote geek culture. There are three main reasons May 25th was selected

  • Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was originally released on this date in 1977.
  • Fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (by Douglas Adams) know this day as “Towel Day.”
  • Discworld (Terry Pratchett) fans may refer to Glorious 25th of May and celebrate with a little lilac.

Regardless of which fandom(s) you follow, May 25th is the day for you! Grab your costumes, your nerd-inspired t-shirts, and anything else to represent your fandom(s). From Trekkies to Hobbits and everything in between, let your nerd flag fly! We certainly will be!
