It’s back to school and today meant “walk through” at our middle school. The kids get to walk their classes and check out their lockers, drop off extra supplies, and so on. It’s a stressful day for everyone so I like to do something special afterward. Since today is National S’mores Day, it’s clearly a no-brainer.
We just love s’mores in our house. We don’t have a fire pit so we’ve developed other ways to get our s’mores fix – year round. The grill works okay though you don’t really get that nice brown exterior. Same with the microwave. This is why we elect to do cast iron s’mores when we crave that chocolatey, marshmallow, graham sandwich treat.
Cast Iron Skillet S’mores
Ingredients – Graham Crackers, Chocolate (we opted for Hershey Bars this time), Marshmallows, Cast Iron Skillet
To make the s’mores, simply line the bottom of your cast iron skillet with chocolate. We break the bars up and spread them out.
Cover with marshmallows.
Bake at 350 degrees until the marshmallows are browned to your tastes. This is after 15 minutes.
Dip your graham crackers in and enjoy!!!
There are loads of variations, of course.
- Instead of chocolate bars/kisses/morsels, substitute Peppermint Patties or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers or Milky Way.
- Use a mixture of chocolate – white, milk, and dark chocolates.
- Add peanut butter, caramel, or butterscotch over your chocolate before adding the marshmallows.
- Garnish with sprinkles, almonds, chopped peanuts, or fruit (strawberries are fantastic) before topping with marshmallows.
